Here's part 5 of my interview with Dr. Anna Lembke where we discuss one of the biggest "crimes" of 20th and 21st century psychiatry
Video transcript:
Dr. Anna Lembke:
To me, one of the biggest crimes of 20th and 21st century psychiatry is that we have told people if you are unhappy, there's something wrong with you. Not only is that not true, but it's incredibly isolating for people because they feel like I'm not happy. Like every day is not full of "following my bliss" or "I haven't found my passion". You know, I, there must be something wrong with me. It's like, no, actually life is hard. Yeah. And it's totally normal to wake up and like, wonder what is it all about? And to feel like even when everything is going well in your life to kind of feel an existential dread or whatever it is – a despair – we've told people that's not normal. And that's really unfortunate.
Dr. Patricia Halligan :
I think it's the experience of being human.
